Just about any tree will work, especially those we are familiar with in Louisiana. The symbolism of the tree should be the focus. Some obvious choices:

• DD Blanchard Southern Magnolia (selected)

• Dogwood

• Weeping Willow

The Magnolia flower was one of her favorites and has been around for at least 100 million years. Magnolias are considered as one of the first flowering plants that had ever evolved on Earth. They live for over 100 years.
